Full sky or full cover
A folding roof opens right back when the sun is out and closes again when the weather turns.
Choose the Verdeca, with a fabric roof that folds, or the Pinela Retractable, with aluminium panels that slide open at the push of a button.
If you would rather tilt the light than open the roof fully, see our louvred roof pergolas.
Two folding roofs
Verdeca
A water-resistant, sun-resistant fabric roof on a grey aluminium frame. It folds open and closed with a Somfy remote. 4m, 5m or 6m wide and 3m to 4m deep, with optional LED lighting. Fold it away in strong wind.
Pinela Retractable
Aluminium roof panels that slide back to open the roof, on a heavy aluminium frame, operated by remote. Wall-mounted or freestanding.
Pinela Louvred
Not a folding roof, but often the one people compare: blades that tilt to let in light and air. See louvred roof pergolas.
Leave it open or close it in
Both folding roofs can stay open on all sides or be closed in with sliding glass walls.
Open on all sides
Shade over the patio when you want it, open sky when you do not.
Glass on the front and sides
Add frameless glass sliding walls to turn it into a sheltered garden room.
Glass all round
Sliding glass on all three sides, with the roof open above you on good days.
Folding roof or fixed glass roof?
A fixed glass roof gives permanent shelter and lets in the most light all year. A folding roof lets you choose: open sky on a warm day, full cover when it rains.
| Folding roof | Fixed glass roof | |
|---|---|---|
| Opens up | Yes, at the push of a button | No |
| Light | Open sky, or shade when closed | The most, all year |
| In strong wind | Fold the Verdeca fabric away | No change |
Sizes
The Verdeca is 4m, 5m or 6m wide and 3m to 4m deep. We measure your space at the free site visit and talk through the Pinela sizes.
Planning permission
It depends on the size, where it sits and your property, so check with your local council before you order. See our planning permission guide.
What it costs

Common questions
Tap a question to open it.
What is the difference between a folding and a louvred roof?
A folding roof opens back to give you full sky or full cover. A louvred roof has blades that tilt to control the sun and air. We will help you choose at the site visit.
Can I use a folding roof in the rain?
Yes. Closed, the roof keeps the rain off. In strong wind, fold the Verdeca fabric away.
Can I add glass sides?
Yes. Both roofs can be closed in with frameless glass sliding walls.
