Our glass pergola on DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland
Apex Verandas built the covered outdoor living area for the Kildare episode of DIY SOS: The Big Build Ireland, shown on RTÉ One on Sunday 4 October 2026. It is a 5m x 4m Pinela glass pergola in grey, 2.5m high, with frameless glass sliding doors on three sides. Our team fitted it on site during the nine-day build, alongside the DIY SOS crew and volunteers, at Ramona and Oran’s new home.
How we got involved
In spring the DIY SOS team got in touch. The house sat on a big site, and the plan was to turn the space at the back into a real feature: an outdoor kitchen, dining and lounge area, covered so it could be used whatever the weather. That is exactly the kind of space we design every week, so we were glad to say yes.
What we built
The pergola is attached to the back of the house, off the kitchen, so the living space carries straight outside. The glass roof keeps the rain off without taking light from the rooms behind it. The glass sliding doors on all three open sides close the room off from wind and rain, and slide back to open it up to the patio and garden on a good day.
The frame is powder-coated aluminium, so it needs no painting or treating, and the roof and glass just need a wash down now and then.
Nine days on site
A DIY SOS build is a full-on nine days, with trades, suppliers and volunteers all working together to finish a family’s home. Our fitters were part of that, and the DIY SOS team told us afterwards that the lads were a hit on site. We are proud to have played our part, and grateful to Warren and the whole DIY SOS team for having us.
You can see the finished home in RTÉ’s article on the episode, and watch it on the RTÉ Player.
